Day Two!

June 7, 2026

Second full day in Naples. It was great and very hot! The coffee at the place we are staying is very strong and is like an espresso, which is different from what I am used to.

Next, we went to get a croissant and it was great. The day's adventure started by walking up some stairs and heading to the historic zone. We headed to a chapel but were not able to get in because it was sold out. Next, we headed to the underground. It was very cool, and the history was amazing. The tour walked us through what it was like to live down there, and how they used to have to climb in and out using a rope. The rope was suspended over water just in case you fell. The aqueduct that ran through it was amazing, though over the years the water has declined.

Lunch was at a pizza place and it was amazing—nothing like at home. I was not able to do justice to my pizza, so Isaac helped me finish it so we would not offend the cook. We also enjoyed a red wine. Everywhere we went, including the place where we ate at, has a host that pulls people into their restaurant to eat. When seated, they offer you an appetizer to go with your meal and you almost feel like you have to order it. We had fresh mozzarella and toast with tomatoes, along with a bottle of wine. The mozzarella is fresh and it was amazing!

We stopped at a church that was amazing! Mass was in Latin and the art and sculptures were amazing. The picture at the start was the ceiling of one of the rooms. We were able to walk around during the mass.

It was very hot out, and still being a little jet-lagged, we decided to head back uphill to the Airbnb for a break and a nap. I am not sure if I said this before, but there are a lot of uphill walks in Naples that include stairs! Two days in and I am definitely getting a workout. I really am not liking the stairs and hills!

After the nap, we headed out again to a piazza, the waterfront, and a hunt for gelato. The view at the waterfront was amazing! Heading back, the hunt for the perfect gelato began. We did settle on one place; it was good, but not the traditional gelato we were looking for. This was our dinner because we were still full from lunch.

It was time to head back uphill and up the stairs to our place! Did I say I don't like stairs?! We had some wine and headed to sleep.

Heading to Rome next, more hills to climb and our first attempt at using the metro and trains. Wish us luck!
