Solar Heater

In one web surfing tangent during the week I was able to find various people that created solar heaters to help heat there house. Most of them were of a somewhat large scale and they had the benefit of having there own house. I wanted to experiment with this idea. I took some material, and I will give you one guess as to what that material is…. yup card board, and a little bit of duct tape.

I gave the test 35 min., some of that time the solar heater was under the less than beneficial cover of over cast. After about 5-10 min in the sun I took my readings. I was able to have in input of 85 degrees and an output of 113 degrees. For the pregnant people that might be viewing this, that is a difference of 28 degrees!!! Not bad for cardboard strategically placed and spray panted black. Dimensions are 32 1/2 inches tall by 20 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches deep.

Maybe if I make another one the size of my window and there are lots of sunny days I just might be able to heat my apartment. Then again if I have that many sunny days in a row, number one that would constitute a miracle for the state of Washington. Number two they call days like that summer, and there for negating the necessity for a solar heater. Plus it’s against the rules to have a flower pot or nick-nack on the window seal, much less my eye sore. Oh well….
